  • Taught Children’s Literature (online and face-to-face), with a focus on using literature across the curriculum. Also emphasized presentation techniques for reading and sharing literature aloud, promoting sensitivity to cultural and social issues and utilizing the visual and performing arts to create a dynamic learning experience. Responsibilities included assisting in course development, integrating the course with other methods courses, selecting and presenting topics for instruction, and assessing student’s work for the online version of the course.
  • Taught Creative Experiences (online and face-to-face), a course designed to cultivate and foster creativity, critical problem-solving using design thinking with a special focus on arts-based methods and problem-based learning. Responsibilities included course development, course conversion from in classroom instruction to fully online during COVID-19, instruction, and assessment.

  • Participated and initiated various site-specific creative projects. Promoted collective creativity through lectures and programs. Collaborated with various organizations, lecturers, and artist through creative storytelling.

  • Established a vital arts-based community program and an art studio to foster intergenerational and international relationships within a diverse community. Developed workshops, offered lectures and instruction related to collaborative, site-specific art.

Level I Clinical Pastoral Education

  • Assisted patients, mainly children who were on research protocols for cancer and HIV/AIDS, and their families at the Pediatric Patient Care unit. Used storytelling and other artistic methods to engage and support their healing and recovery. Also, assisted patients on a Neurology In-patient Care Unit and a Neurology Out-patient Unit.

  • Studied and worked with renowned liturgical fiber artist, Catherine Kapikian. Explored various artistic mediums in the context of religious and liturgical art. Participated in the development of art commissions and installations

Clinical Chaplain – 1998-2000

College of Medicine, Debrecen, Hungary

  • Engaged with children with terminal cancer through storytelling and artistic activities. Developed the framework of context-dependent shadow puppetry technique and a participatory drama technique that enhanced children’s participation in storytelling.

TH7105 Curriculum Development for Community Education (Online)

In this course, the student considers the multiple purposes, resources, and tasks involved in developing community religious, counseling, and social action education programs. Included are topics such as bibliotherapy, theological issues, needs assessment, program planning and assessment, resource development, and interagency relationships.

TH7106 Non-Western Helping and Healing Arts (Online)

This course explores the limited defining theories and cultural contexts used in helping and healing. Students focus on common methods used in interpersonal problem solving, mediation, growth, and aid, with a survey of the more nontraditional methods of helping and healing in other parts of the world. The course compares these approaches and identifies what they have in common, the cultural specificity of their effectiveness, and the generalizability of the practices to an individual counselor and client beliefs.

TH7104 Family Mediation and Conflict Resolution (Blended)

In this course, students consider several family mediation strategies and practices as well as valuable strategies for constructive conflict resolution. The role of the individual is considered as it is affected by his or her role within family and social systems. Resolution skills can be put to use in a variety of situations and settings. Many of the problem solving, communication skills, and theories of behavior that are a part of the pastoral counselor’s training can be applied to briefer encounters with individuals, partners, families, groups, or factions of a community in order to resolve differences, stop harm, and reorient toward a more productive interaction.

TH7102 Individual Spiritual Enhancement (Blended)

This course focuses on the various methods of individual spiritual enhancement and the identification of skills to enable pastoral counselors to facilitate spiritual growth and insight in themselves and the people they encounter. Examples from key historical writings, contemporary theoretical perspectives, and practices from a variety of spiritual traditions are presented. The importance of the role of individual enhancement and its contribution to the development of a religious/spiritual community are discussed.

TH7108 Contemporary Ethical Issues in Pastoral Community Counseling (Blended)

In this course, the student considers a variety of contemporary concerns facing the pastoral and community counselor, including ethical, theological, social, individual, and legal problems, issues, and professional standards. Individual, Marriage and Family, and Pastoral Counseling Codes of Ethics guide the class discussion.

PC6230 Theories in Counseling Families & Individuals (Blended)

This course provides an overview of the major theories in family and individual counseling. Theoretical concepts are explored in light of the major models of family therapy. Also considered are the various theories of counseling and issues in the practice of individual counseling.

R7035 Methods & Analysis of Qualitative Research (Blended)

This course introduces the assumptions, theories, and processes of qualitative inquiry. The purpose of this course is to provide students with the theoretical foundations necessary to understand qualitative inquiry and to enhance their abilities to conduct qualitative research and evaluation.

Through this course, students explore the cultural and historical background of the New Testament, with an emphasis on the religious environment of the Greco-Roman world. The course examines the earliest traditions of Jesus and the development of the Gospels (including non-canonical Gospels and Gnostic writings).

REL2300 Intro To Religion

Using cross-cultural research (anthropology, archeology, history, biology, psychology) this course examines and explores how different religions can be understood as a fundamental experience in human cultural life. Also, the course introduces the basic dimensions of religion, (e.g. ritual, narrative, experiential, institutional, ethical, doctrinal, material) and compares similarities and differences relating to major world religions.
